FlY-IN BREAKFAST UPDATE

If it was not stated in the previous communication . We have some cooks in our club who really know how to prepare PANCAKES !

Come on out early ( 8 am ) and help us get everything ready for the breakfast which starts at 9 am . The weather still looks great and with any luck we will all get to sample JOSH and GINA's pancakes once the fly-in guests have eaten !

FLYING FOLLOWS for the rest of the day .

Fly-In this Saturday

Members all , Hopefully everyone in the club is planning to attend our Saturday morning Pancake Breakfast "Fly in " that we have arranged for this coming Saturday the 30th. THE BEST NEWS IS THAT THE WEATHER FORECAST LOOKS GOOD !

We are expecting a large number of Power pilots to fly in and we hope to convince a good number to consider joining our fine club. Be ready to talk up gliding whenever you can .

Breakfast will be served beginning 9 am and we will be offering reduced rate " Experience Gliding " rides after the breakfast . We need all the help we can get EARLY - to get the tables prepared , the equipment out to the field and of course prepare the breakfast ! Please plan to get to the field by 8 am or even 7:30 am if you can make it as we will need lots of help .

Dan and Ron.

Winching Done

There will be no winching on Monday, May 25th. We are done with our two week winch introduction during which 22 people took 80 flights. The Board will discuss winching at its June 20th meeting - so let the Board know how you feel about winching (pro and con). Thanks to everyone who made our winch experience a success!

Monday Winching

We had another great afternoon of winching today thanks to Tod H. , our trusty winch operator. Larry M. renewed his winch endorsement. Larry P. flew three very successful flights with Ed Lossing as instructor. Kurt was out mowing and guttering and got in a couple of flights. His professional assessment of the winch: "Whoopee!" We had NO rope breaks and NO weak link breaks. We are starting to get the hang of this thing.

I'll send an email to let you know when we are winching again.

Winching on Monday

Those who want to practice their winching skills are invited to Alex Monday, May 18 from 3 to 6 pm. Let me know if you plan to come. We have winch instructors and an operator (Thanks Tod Herrli!). So come out out.

By the way -we had very successful first weekend of winching. We had 42 winch launches - some to 1100 feet, several that got away and thermalled (though that was not our goal.) Thanks to everyone who showed up, worked hard and had a lot of fun!

Sunday TFR Over Indy

A NOTAM has been issued for Sunday, May 17, 2009. A 30 NM radius TFR and a smaller no-fly zone will restrict flight in Indianapolis and the surrounding area from 4:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. local time.

Per Dave Newill:
If you are flying after 4:30 beware - many of our airports are under the TFR - so best to be home at I99.

==> 30 nm radius TFR <==
Location:
VHP VOR's 113-degree radial at 8.8 nautical miles
Surface to 17,999-ft-MSL

==> 12 nm radius no-fly zone <==
Location:
VHP VOR's 113-degree radial at 8.8 nautical miles
Surface to 17,999-ft-MSL

AOPA has the NOTAM here and more information about complying with the NOTAM here.

==> IMPACTED AIRPORTS <==

NOTE: These things are subject to change at the last minute. At the moment, I99 is not on the above list because it is close to, but outside, the TFR area. GET A BRIEFING FROM 1-800-WXBRIEF BEFORE FLIGHT. Also, notice that the TFR and no-fly zone are NOT centered on an airport or VOR, they are centered on VHP VOR's 113-degree radial at 8.8 nautical miles out, which is CLOSER TO ALEXANDRIA than the VOR is.

Winch tow on Saturday

We had a great Friday afternoon and evening of winching. We plan to winch between showers this morning (Sat) until 11 AM as well as this afternoon starting at 3 pm. Aero-tow has priority from 11 AM to 3 pm. If no one wants an aero-tow, we may run the winch from 11 to 3 as well. Come on out and enjoy the day!
