The 2008 CISS Club Cross-Country Contest ended October 31 and the results are in the history books. Let’s look at some statistics before jumping to the scores: 15 pilots submitted 74 flights and flew an awesome 6,815 miles on 17 different days. The average flight was 92 miles and the average speed was 42.1 miles/hour. And this year 10 pilots were scored on the maximum of four flights, compared to 7 pilots last year. Overall this year, we flew more days, more flights and more distance than last year. “Attaboys” all around !
But not everything changes: Ron Clarke and Brad Hays finished in first and second place again this year. However, Gerald Simpson jumped from 6th place last year to 3rd place this year. He submitted nine flights to the contest and had some very impressive distances and speeds. Obviously he’s got his Discus B and the new ClearNav really dialed in now. And look out for Mario. He averaged 978 points on each of his three flights. If he had made the maximum of four flights, he could have bumped into the top 4.
In the team category, Ristow/Taylor eeked out a narrow 14 point win over Ruble/Saunders proving…….. well, I guess we have four good pilots in two essentially equal ships!
Now congratulations to all who took part; I hope you achieved some personal bests, earned a few bragging rights, enjoyed some friendly rivalry and stretched yourselves just a little more than you thought you could. Let’s do it again next year!
